Purpose. Assessment of the current approaches to the management of training process in professional ice hockey.
Subjects. 75 professional ice hockey coaches.
Results. 97% of coaches consider it necessary to test off ice performance, 87% - on ice performance. 88% of coaches conduct a performance testing at the beginning of the preseason camp. At the end of the camp before the start of the regular season 56% of coaches assess the degree of progress of their players. 43% of respondents evaluate the level of physical performance in the middle of the regular season. The testing at the end of the season is carried out by 53% of coaches.
The most popular test of aerobic endurance is the Cooper test (which is used by 25% of coaches) and its modification - 3.000 meters run (12%). The most popular strength test is barbell bench press (27%), strength endurance test - 45-60 seconds sit up (16%), speed-strength test - broad jump (19%), speed test - 15-30 meters sprint (13%), off ice anaerobic endurance test - 200-400 meters sprint (15%), on ice anaerobic endurance test - 5x54 meters shuttle skating test (15%). A labratory testing is conducted in 12% of hockey teams.
Regarding the assessment of the results obtained during the testing, 77% of respondents reported that they have model characteristics (target indicators / results to strive for). In 59% of cases they are derived from their own experience, 53% use the experience of other teams, and only 19% of specialists use the scientific literature to determine the evaluation criteria.
Conclusion. Analysis of the results of the survey indicates the existing problems in the management of the training process in professional ice hockey. To solve them, it is necessary to use a multi-stege periodization of testing, develop a testing program that allows to objectively assess the key physical qualities for ice hockey.
