Video games as a factor of negative impact on athletes’ performance
🕹More than 20% of elite athletes consistently play video games [1]. If the athlete lacks self-control, excessive time spent with the gamepad has a significant negative impact on athletic performance [2]. ⏰When played for more than 60 min, video games have a negative impact on sleep quality [3]. 🪫The more time individuals spend playing video games, the higher their levels of fatigue and insomnia, the more likely they are to need more time to fall asleep, and use sleeping pills more often [4].
🔋To be in the best shape possible, athletes should eliminate playing video games the day before the competition and on the competition day. On the other days, they should limit playing time to under 60 minutes and finish not later than 2 hours prior to going to bed.
