In the article the problem of the testing in professional ice hockey is condered. Based on the results of a survey of ice hockey coaches all over the world, the lack of testing periodization in modern professional ice hockey is highlighted. The importance of testing throughout the hockey season is discussed. The author proposes a 4-stage testing periodization model.
Conclusion. Testing allows to: a) identify the strengths and weaknesses of an athlete; b) evaluate the effectiveness of a training program; c) assess the degree of progress of a hockey player. A scientifically based, economical and well-founded program of testing, conducted 4 times per season, can significantly increase the effectiveness of the athlete's training process.
